Player Alone, Palms Up

Stage directions for one performer, a laptop, and the one measurement somebody chose not to take.

Behind the curtain+

One story, per the micro mandate: the maker's own comment in the thread lists the four numbers his code reads off two palms and admits he leaves one of them deliberately unused.

An instrument played with the body wants a form that scores the body, so the whole piece is stage directions, with the unmeasured fourth dimension played as blocking rather than explained as an idea.

A bare room. A table. A laptop, lid open, aimed at the PLAYER. No instrument.

PLAYER enters. Sits. Reads the screen: KEEP BOTH HANDS IN VIEW.

Palms up, at shoulder width. Hold. A tone.

Palms together. Silence. Palms apart, slowly, back to shoulder width. Louder.

Both hands rise. The tone climbs with them. Hold at the top, a little past comfortable.

PLAYER tilts the line between the palms, a see-saw gesture that sat unused for months, and the note begins to sing.

Still playing, PLAYER stands. Steps left. Nothing changes. Steps left again, hands high, and still nothing. Somebody decided not to measure this.

PLAYER walks the length of the table on the same note, unpunished.

At the edge of the frame, in small letters: OUTSIDE FRAME = SILENCE.

PLAYER steps out. Silence. Beat. Steps back in, and the note resumes where it was left.

PLAYER sits. Lowers both hands into lap. Silence.

The camera goes on watching the air above the table.

Blackout.
